Responding, Not Reacting
by Erich Gliebe

American Dissident Voices Broadcast of
May 1st, 2010

Hello, and welcome back to another edition of American Dissident Voices, the Internet radio program of North America’s foremost racialist organization, the National Alliance. I’m your host and the Chairman of the Alliance, Erich Gliebe.

A few weeks ago on American Dissident Voices, I talked about our race needing to change – consciously – in order to survive and to have a future. In that broadcast, I talked about Darwin’s theory of evolution, which is basically a theory as to how and why organisms change over time. And I mentioned that while most of nature changes unconsciously – that is, without choosing to and without knowing why it needs to – our race must accept the challenge to evolve in a conscious way. I’d like to elaborate on that idea of change today.

As you all know, today is May 1st, which is known as “May Day” in the United States and many other countries. Today’s May Day is descended from the culture of our pagan Celtic and Germanic ancestors, who marked it as a time of celebration partway between the spring equinox and the summer solstice. The Celts called the celebration “Beltane.” The Christianized German tribes called it “Walpurgis Night,” after St. Walpurga – whose holy day coincided with an earlier pagan tradition, which resulted in the two days merging into one celebration.

May Day isn’t the only so-called “cross-quarter day” – a day that falls in between the better known equinoxes and solstices. Another noted one for our pagan ancestors is the Celtic festival of Samhain, which occurs on November 1st, exactly six months after May Day. The pagan festival of Samhain was Christianized during the conversion of Europe, when efforts were made by the followers of the new religion to change it into All Saints’ Day. Although Christianity pretty much ran the table with regard to religion in the Celtic world, the efforts to substitute All Saints’ Day for Samhain were only partially successful. Today, of course, most of us know this holiday as Halloween, which is much closer to being the pagan festival of Samhain than it is to being the Christian holiday of All Saints’ Day.

Anyway, the evolution of the festivals of pagan Europe into modern celebrations with different names was unavoidable because evolution is built into the fabric of the universe. Things CANNOT stay exactly the same over time, with no changes at all. They MUST change, just as the universe itself has changed continuously since its beginning at the Big Bang, some 14 billion years ago. In other words, the universe has been changing for as long as it has been in existence. And a high-sounding word for change is evolution.

To review briefly, the evolution of the universe as we know it began with the Big Bang, which was basically a big explosion in which all of the material universe, which started from a point of infinite density called a singularity, was sent flying outward in all directions. Scientists today believe that whatever – if anything – happened prior to the Big Bang is forever beyond our knowledge, because the known laws of physics break down at singularities, which include not only the one at the Big Bang but also black holes, which scientists believe are scattered in many places throughout the cosmos. And because any possible past that occurred before the Big Bang is unknowable, it is a fair statement to say that the Big Bang was the moment of creation or the beginning of time.

At any rate, ever since the Big Bang, the universe has been expanding. What started out as more-or-less pure energy eventually congealed into the various particles of matter that scientists have identified and labeled. Suns and families of suns – galaxies – were born, due to the mutual gravitational attraction of the hydrogen gas in particular regions of the universe. After a time of stasis, when the “back pressure” of a star’s thermonuclear reactions exactly balanced its tendency to collapse via gravity, the star would consume its nuclear fuel and succumb to gravity. Following an implosion and the brief creation of heavier elements, the star would explode in a supernova, sending “stardust” out into the vacuum of space. Some of this stardust was drawn together via gravity to form planets, moons, and other astronomical bodies. Later, many of these bodies would be destroyed, either by collisions with other stellar debris or consumed in nuclear fire as a nearby star expanded into a red giant as it went through its death rattle. The current prediction is that Earth will be consumed by nuclear fire from the Sun when it expands in its last days, some five billion years from now.

But on at least one planet, the atoms formed more and more complex molecules, eventually leading to the creation of life and its evolutionary progress up to the sentient beings like ourselves that dominate the planet today. And those beings continue to change – we continue to change – as time marches inexorably on.

At every turn, change – or evolution, if you will – has happened, whether anyone and anything wanted it or not. As I said earlier, change is built into the fabric of the universe. It is a part of things, and for us to fight change is for us to be in opposition to the way things are. That’s not a good idea, because history has shown that the groups that aren’t willing or able to change get bypassed by other organisms that, for whatever reason, are better able to adapt to the circumstances of the present moment.

I’ve known a lot of White racialists in my day. Most of them mean well. Their hearts are in the right place. They want the best for our people. They revere the traditions of our ancestors and want to make the present a safe place for their descendents in the future. They correctly note that the changes going on in the world today are detrimental to our people’s future, and they therefore resist those changes as much as possible.

Unfortunately, many Whites have expanded their resistance towards the changes that are now threatening our race’s existence into resistance to ALL change. In other words, some White racialists are slamming the door on any change in their lives. And when you refuse to change on the outside, that merely means that you have refused to change on the inside. Your approach toward life is a static one and you are unwilling or unable to change the most important ingredients for you to be able to positively affect the world: your attitudes and habits. Those determine your impact on the people and events around you, and when circumstances around you change, you must either change your attitudes and habits or risk being a virtual non-factor in the events around you.

This unwillingness to change ones attitudes and habits is evident in the stereotype of the conservative “stick in the mud.” That stereotype is evident in the old joke that goes something like this:

How many conservatives does it take to change a light bulb? None; conservatives don’t believe in change.

Or a variation might be:

How many conservatives does it take to change a light bulb? Only one, but the other fifty sit around and complain that it’s never been done that way before.

Yes, and then I suppose they kick out the one who changed the light bulb, because obviously he isn’t a conservative.

Anyway, the conservative “stick in the mud” is probably only the most well-recognized example of a group of people who are unwilling to change. There are many others. Liberals, for example, have been bitching from the beginning about how this or that isn’t right in society. And if we’ve learned anything from the past, it is that the liberals refuse to change their incredibly annoying habit of bitching, which leaves no stone unturned in its desire to have an audience, to whine, and to be pitied.

It is perhaps a paradox of human existence that while life – like the universe – demands change, human beings often dig in their heels and resist it with all their strength.

No one is arguing the fact that there is much change that does NOT advance the evolutionary progress of our race. I’m not suggesting that we simply be passive and swallow whole the changes that the Jews are putting in place for us. What I am suggesting is that we need to clearly and consciously assess what is happening, accept that it is the way it is without bemoaning the fact that it IS that way, and then be open to responding to that situation in a new way.

The first part – assessing what is happening – is the easiest step. There are plenty of media sources that will aid us in this regard. You can go to the library or go online to find out virtually anything you want to, but the best way to assess what is happening around you is to simply keep your eyes and ears open. And you’ll find out all you need to know.

The second step – accepting what IS without complaining overly about it – is much more difficult. With regard to racial issues, I myself have trouble with this one. It is so easy to complain, point fingers, and lay blame that – if we aren’t careful – suddenly we notice that three hours have passed and all we’ve done is gotten ourselves worked up over some thoughts. Nothing concrete was done. Nothing changed. The issue that precipitated the complaining hasn’t gone away. And what is perhaps worst: You have been acting like a whining liberal for the last three hours. Instead of complaining into the wee hours of the morning, what we need to do is to practice accepting what is, realizing that we can’t change what has already happened.

And the last step – responding, possibly in a new way – doesn’t become possible without our having accepted the situation for what it is. I like the term “responding” to a situation rather than “reacting” to it. There is a reason the American communists during the 1950s referred to McCarthyites with the derogatory term “reactionaries.” To react is to give a knee-jerk response, to lash out without consciousness. To respond, on the other hand, is to be fully aware of what you are doing and why, AND – what is perhaps most important – to do it without throwing the weight of negative energy behind it.

To illustrate what I mean here… I remember reading something that Robert Griffin included in his biography of National Alliance founder Dr. William Pierce, The Fame of a Dead Man’s Deeds. Griffin visited the Alliance’s National Office in West Virginia to observe and conduct extensive interviews with Dr. Pierce. In one part of his book, Griffin commented on his surprise that Dr. Pierce went about his work with a lightness of heart; that despite Dr. Pierce’s dislike of what the Jews have done to harm our race, he simply accepted the Jews as being what they are without dwelling on that fact. In other words, Dr. Pierce didn’t throw the weight of negative energy behind most of what he was doing. In fact, Griffin noted that the only time Dr. Pierce seemed to get worked up about the Jews and other racial issues was during the actual taping of the American Dissident Voices broadcasts that Dr. Pierce was doing at the time and that Griffin observed. Aside from that, Griffin said, Dr. Pierce went about his work with a quick step and a keen eye, without taking the race’s situation too personally.

Accepting what IS and then responding to it without negative energy is more difficult for older people. The young are quicker to take what life has handed them and to respond with exactly what is needed at the moment. The National Socialist movement in Germany, for example, was largely a youth movement. Young people were awarded positions of responsibility within the Party and moved it forward quickly during the 1930s. The young people of Germany had accepted the situation and addressed it, NOT by looking back to the past for their inspiration, but rather by looking within themselves to create a new Germany that suited the needs of the moment. Most of the 1930s was a time of joy and positive energy in Germany, and only with the advent of the war did the old patterns and old negativities of life reassert themselves.

What we Whites need today is a response – not a reaction – to our situation. We need to accept the situation as it is, without too much complaining, and without saying, “Well, if only so-and-so had done such-and-such, then we wouldn’t be in this pickle today.” And most of all, we need a response that carries a positive energy and that fits our needs right now. As much as we might admire the Germanic tribes of old or the days of kings or the Third Reich… those responses were appropriate for unique times and places.

We need to learn from the successes and mistakes of those past times and EVOLVE to create our own response for the present.

I’m Erich Gliebe, and thanks for being with me again today.
